What is Clean Truck Check?

Clean Truck Check is California’s program to reduce emissions from heavy-duty diesel vehicles. Trucks and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) over 14,000 pounds must pass periodic emissions inspections to operate legally in California.

The program includes:

• OBD-based testing for vehicles model year 2013 and newer
• Opacity testing for older vehicles without OBD capability
• Visual inspections of emissions control systems

Vehicles that fail must be repaired and retested before returning to service.
